In light of the overall ineffectiveness of the planned pro-Muslim Brotherhood uprisings during the third anniversary of the January 25 revolution, the Freedom and Justice Party—the political wing of the Brotherhood—is again calling on “the world” and “at their head, the United Nations,” to intervene in Egypt’s domestic affairs, to annoyance of the average Egyptian who resents international interference in their domestic affairs.
In its recently issued statement, the F&J Party declares: “All you free people of the world, all you honorable ones of the world—move fast for [the sake of] the freedom-lovers in Egypt, its revolutionaries and heroes. Stand with principles and urge your governments to take a clear stand against this bloody overthrow.”
The statement further called on all human rights and other organizations—specifically naming an urging the United Nations—to intervene in Egypt on behalf of “democracy.”
Such actions indicate that the Brotherhood, knowing its unpopularity among average Egyptians, is throwing off its mask of caring for the welfare of Egypt and in desperation doing the one thing that always exposes treason: calling on foreigners to fight against one’s own nation. Or so nearly every Egyptian commentator is pointing out.
